Jefferson Theatre

A 1927 downtown theatre that anchored Beaumont's civic stage life and was brought back through a major early-2000s restoration. This is an independent guide to its history and how to reach the official box office.

What it is

The Jefferson Theatre opened in 1927 as a movie and vaudeville house and became one of Beaumont's signature downtown buildings. It was designed by the New Orleans architect Emile Weil in a Renaissance Revival style, and it still contains its original Robert Morton pipe organ. The City of Beaumont describes the organ as one of only two of its kind still in use in the country.

From closure to restoration

The Jefferson closed as a movie theatre in 1972. After decades of decline it was the subject of a large restoration effort led by a local preservation society. The decorative-arts firm Conrad Schmitt Studios, which carried out the interior restoration, records that the project recreated the theatre's original stencil and decorative scheme with extensive gilding and glazing, reversing a later single-color paint job, and that the work was recognized with a 2004 Best Restoration Project award. The City lists the Jefferson as fully restored in 2003.

We do not reproduce the former restoration booklet or archived venue text. For the restoration record in the restorer's own words, see the Conrad Schmitt project page linked below.

Visiting and tickets

The Jefferson is part of the group of downtown venues booked through the City of Beaumont's event service, which also runs the box office. Because show schedules, ticket prices, entrance, and accessible-seating details change, this atlas does not publish them. Confirm the current program and any parking or access arrangements directly with the official service before you travel.
